Teenage Girl 2: "Same betch. I hate our lives."
Teenage Girl 1: Hashtag, White girl probs!"
If you at all find this conversation familiar than you know exactly what runs through the brain of a teenage girl. "How do I look?" As a teenage boy who takes an "interest" in the female body, I know just how appealing a girl with a nice tan looks, but I'd much rather have a girl who looks real, than something I can buy at bob's furniture store. Probably one of the greatest dilemmas of our generation is tanning and the effects that it has on our bodies. Sure everybody loves to look good, but at what cost? Are we willing to literally destroy ourselves for vanity?
In recent news, a New Jersey woman was charged with endangering her child after the accusations that she brought her child to a tanning bed. Really lady? If you want to look like one of Willy Wonka's minions, then by all means go for it! But don't bring your kid with you! I know that with educational programs like "Jersey Shore" more people want to aspire to be like Snooki, browner than a leather couch and passed out on the boardwalk, but there are bigger things in life than that. Teenagers need to look past the 10 second beauty aspect and realize that the time spent in the tanning bed is time off their life. Sitting in a machine that literally cooks your organs...yeah, not a good idea.
From a teenage guy's point of view I'd much rather have a nice girl who doesn't look like a washed out version of Snooki (which is really saying something). Be true to yourself and let people accept you for who you are....and yes, I did steal that line from a Disney Movie. What are you going to do about it?
